Why Wisdom Teeth Often Need to Go

If your dentist recommends a wisdom tooth extraction, it is likely a preventative measure to keep the rest of your teeth safe. Wisdom teeth often grow in at an angle, crowding your existing teeth, or remain only partially erupted and cause infection.

The extraction may be done under local anaesthetic. For more complicated extractions we may refer you to an oral surgeon, where you have the option of being asleep during the procedure. Recovery is usually quick, as fast as two or three days for simple removals.

Does everyone need their wisdom teeth removed?
No, some people's wisdom teeth will not cause complications, and therefore do not need to be removed. We'll assess yours during your exam.
What's the best age for removal?
There isn't one ideal age, but generally in the late teens. We can help you decide when the best time is for you during your exam.
Will I be asleep for the procedure?
We don't offer treatment under general anesthetic, but we do offer conscious oral sedation to help you relax. For complicated extractions we may refer you to an oral surgeon, where sleep sedation is an option.
Do you bill insurance directly?
We will claim insurance directly when we can, and we always charge only the BC Fee Guide for general dentists.
