When your jaw needs more than a guard.

A night guard protects your teeth from grinding, but it doesn’t relax the muscles doing the clenching. If you wake with a tight or sore jaw, or headaches, we may recommend EMFACE as part of your care: a non-invasive treatment licensed for TMJ dysfunction that works on the jaw muscles to ease tension and pain.

We’ll check your jaw at your exam and tell you honestly whether a guard alone is enough. EMFACE sessions take place at our Fleetwood clinic.

Before we make anything, your dentist checks your teeth, jaw and bite to understand why you’re grinding, so we treat the cause as well as protect your teeth. All five were trained by our founder, Dr. Kooner, so you get the same care at either clinic.

How do I know if I grind my teeth?
Common signs are a sore jaw or headache in the morning, worn or chipped teeth, and a partner hearing you grind. We can also see wear on your status scans.
Can a night guard help with jaw pain?
Often, yes. By reducing the stress on your jaw muscles, a night guard can ease pain caused by clenching and grinding. If your jaw stays tight or sore, we may also recommend EMFACE. Jaw pain & TMJ.
Is a night guard the same as a sleep apnea appliance?
No. A night guard protects your teeth from grinding and clenching. An oral appliance for snoring or sleep apnea is a different device, made here to fit and used alongside your doctor. Snoring & sleep apnea.
How long does a custom night guard last?
With care, a guard lasts for years, though many patients like a new one every two. Bring it to your checkups so we can check the fit.
Do kids need custom mouthguards for sports?
We make custom sports mouthguards for children and adults who play contact sports. Growing children may need a new one as their teeth change, and we check the fit at every checkup.
Will a night guard change my bite?
It shouldn’t. Your guard is designed from a 3D scan to fit your bite, and we check the fit when we deliver it and at your checkups. If it ever feels tight or your bite feels different, let us know and we’ll check it.
Will I get an upper or lower guard?
Your dentist will recommend one after checking your teeth, bite and any wear at your exam, and explain why. Either way, it’s made from your own 3D scan and thinned where it counts.
